Dear Shooters,
On Saturday, March 28, 2009 we will hold the 17th Alvin C. York Memorial Shoot. Mel and I attribute the overwhelming success of this event to each and everyone that comes annually to the shoot. The best examples of this are the many donated prizes, the volunteers that sets up the range and everyone that donates their time during the shoot helping with the registration, scoring, recording, tabulating, collecting targets, including the great responsibility of the range officers. The last nine years, Jim & Judy Franks, and their daughter Jessica, have tirelessly worked entered the scores on a computer. This shoot is a lot of work and it takes everyone to make this it happen and we truly appreciate everyone’s help in their personal area of expertise.
Registration - $35.00. Cut-off for registration is mandatory at 230 shooters. That’s just all we can safely handle. Pre-registration cut-off date is March 20.
Campers may setup after noon on Thursday and we will setup the range Friday. Saturday safety talk is 7:25 AM CST and the shoot starts at 8:00 AM CST. This event is a re-enactment of the Jamestown Shoot as described in Walter Cline’s book and as seen in the Sgt. York movie. We kindly ask everyone to please focus on proper period clothing, accouterments, loading stands and shooting boxes. Let’s all look the part! Do the best you can, and let’s have another fine shoot.
Please remember and stress - SAFTY FIRST !!!
*SPECIAL NOTE: Because of increased liability, there will be no shooting on Friday – no exceptions! Also, to eliminate some confusion, shooting chunks should be flat on top. Grooves in the chunk that hold or cradle the rifle are going too far. Build a cant block that clamps to the rifle and set it on top of the chunk. The rifle (with the cant bar) should be able to slide side to side and back and forth on the ch
No more grooves or rails on the chunk !
There have been concerns the last several years that we need to stress! The Alvin York Shoot is held on Tenn. State property, please be aware that the display of alcoholic beverages should be keep to an absolute minimum. Please put your drinks in a cup or mug and keep the cans and bottles out of sight ! Be extremely discrete. THERE WILL BE NO SALES OF ALCOHOL ON THE SHOOT SITE! Also, when you arrive please set-up your camper, tents, or motor homes at least
70 ft. behind the loading area for a Firelane. There will be no parking in firelane.
Please bag up trash securely and leave it near the cans for easy pick-up. Thanks
